What Are Common Conditions of Release in Washington?
Getting out of jail does not necessarily mean a person is free from court-imposed restrictions while the case is pending.
Conditions of release are requirements a court places on a person as part of allowing that person to remain outside custody.
Depending on the circumstances, Washington courts may impose conditions such as restrictions on travel, association or residence; prohibitions against contacting certain people or entering certain locations; restrictions on firearms or dangerous weapons; restrictions on consuming alcohol or nonprescribed drugs; supervision; electronic monitoring; or other conditions reasonably related to appearance and specified safety concerns.
Conditions Are Case-Specific
There is no single list that automatically applies to every defendant.
A person’s release order should identify the conditions that apply to that particular case.
What Happens if a Release Condition Is Violated?
The court may reconsider the person’s release. Current Washington rules permit amendment of release conditions when circumstances change or new information becomes available. A willful violation can also result in revocation of release after the required court process.
